CX Masters Worlds Day 4
The fourth and final day of Championship races unfolded much as the day before. Deep frozen ruts and a slight dusting of fresh snow greeted the racers as the morning began. By the 11 o'clock races, the sun began to thaw the frozen ground and the course surface became slicker than snot, once again sending nearly everyone out on course down for at least a couple spills. As the afternoon rolled around, the course became increasingly muddy and the pits once again came alive. The Sunday morning races were most inspiring, as the 60+ and older age groups took to the course under seriously challenging conditions.
Cyclocross Masters Worlds Day 3
Another challenging day out on the course in Louisville! With the temperatures remaining below freezing throughout the day on Friday and overnight into Saturday, the course remained a maze of unforgiving frozen ruts. Course workers continued to shift the course tape around and bring in sand on a couple of the worst sections of ruts to make the course a bit less treacherous for the 6 Championship races on Saturday.
CX Masters Worlds Day 2
As the storm that hit Louisville for the first day of racing developed further, the temperatures dropped overnight and turned the deep mud into treacherous ruts and slick icy corners. The race directors shortened the course by taking out a few of the steep run ups and descents, in an effort to shorten the lengthy lap times and cut down on the need for medical assistance. Still, the first heats of the day saw rider after rider hit the hard frozen ground as they searched for safe passage around the course.
CX Masters Worlds Day 1
The CX Gods have smiled upon Louisville Kentucky and delivered some of the muddiest conditions seen in years. Seeding heats for the final races in the next few days were held throughout the day as rain and then snow fell from the sky. Three lap heats were soon shortened to two lap heats as lap times were nearly double what they were under dry conditions. With freezing temperatures called for tonight, and a high of 27 degrees forcasted for Friday, course conditions are sure to remain challenging throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for more photos and updated reports as the racers continue.
